Design Examples / Modern / Play Room

The play room in any home is the place you can go let it all out. Featuring recessed geometric ceilings that show off reflected light. The recessed lighting also makes the room feel more spacious. Flooded with a cool glow and accented with six large windows, this room is wide open with possibilities. Strong colors accented with black and white details give the room a bold clean feeling. The custom pattern tile floor and checker board pattern of the quilt keep the strong geometric theme alive. The lamps offset the linear, square theme with their fluid, organic lines. They are complimented by the relaxed canvas chair in the corner. This is a fun room for all ages, perfect for a jam session or romantic evening of quiet classical music.

Contemporary play room with tile floor

Flooring: Durable tile floors bring style and class to this room. Ceramic tile will withstand the toughest of teenagers. The hard nature of tile flooring will create a high amount of ambient noise. This should be taken into consideration when planning a playroom. Spills and stains are not a concern for tile, so hosting a party of 10 or more people would be no problem.

Windows: Full height double glazed windows add a wealth of outside light while retaining all the indoor environment be it winter or summer.

Wall Paint: A cool gray that nearly looks white, cleans up easily and feels inviting. Stay in and play a while, let your hair down.

Lighting: Nestled in the recessed ceiling, these canned light fixtures are hidden but direct a wealth of ambient light, providing great task lighting. A comfortable light level can be set for any occasion when placed on dimmer switches.

Accessories: A play room should be fun, that's why a pair of funky swirly lamps atop a sleek ottoman fit so well in this room. A set of high tech musical instruments also adorns this room as would any musical instrument be it a piano or a guitar rack.

Furniture: A pair of oak futons provide great seating for the concert at hand. Futons are a good choice because they can accomodate more guests than a guest room. This room would be ideal for a pool table, ping pong table, excercise equipment, or pinball game.
